Add in Toppling Metamagic and/or Mimic Metamagic for more options, and to really get crazy. You'll have Magic Missile, Battering Blast, Burst of Force, Blade Barrier, and Telekinetic Storm. They can be like a Mystic Theurge, but without falling behind in caster level.įorce damage is a great way to go with the Psychic, too.

The Psychic spell list is incredible to begin with, but cherry picking the best Druid spells to add on to that is even better. My favorite by far is the Magaambyan Telepath. I think it's one of the best classes in the game, and one of the best classes for Unfair. Alchemist bombs, Scorching Rays, Fire Kineticists, etc.īut Psychic is ridiculous. You add Fire vulnerability with no save, and many others can take advantage of that. Or anything that gets the Flame Curse Hex (Spirit Whisperer Wizard, Spirit Guide Oracle, Shaman). Rime Metamagic + Ice Storm is great for slowing large groups with no save, and it's even better when Ice Storm is originally a level 3 spell instead of level 4. I did a "Lich Witch" build with this and a Winter Patron and that was really fun. You can increase the power every level if you want once you get it (through your Hexes and through your Feats if you take Extra Hex). Or Hex Channeler Witch with Negative Energy Channeling. They work better in turn based, where you can better manage their abilities.

They can fire off a lot of arrows every round, and can still be a tank/offtank. It can also be used on inanimate objects, including removing Walls of Force and completely remove the possibility of ressurection short of a Wish.I'm a fan of an arcane-based Hinterlander, partly to cast Burst of Force and Caustic Eruption at range. So really the only advantages Explode Head has over Mind Thrust V is the small chance for a little bit of area damage, that it can scale up to level 20 instead of level 15 (even then, it takes until level 19 for Explode Head to actually deal about the same amount of damage), and that it targets Fortitude instead of Will.ĭisintegrate on the other hand is good because it deals a massive 2d6 per caster level of damage. The difference is, Mind Thrust V also exhausts on a failed save, fatigues on a successful save, can be undercast if you're out of or don't want to burn any 5th level slots, and doesn't need the target to be corporeal. While Mind Thrust V isn't going to instantly kill someone who's at 20 or less HP, at a minimum 10d8 damage (more than Explode Head's 10d6), it's still likely able to deal enough to kill them, even on a successful save. It's pretty easy to compare to Mind Thrust V, a spell of the same level. Or, if the enemy is already 20 or less HP or is reduced from above 20 to 0 or less, it causes their head to explode instantly killing them and dealing a measly 2d6 damage to everyone around them. It's only 1d6 per caster level damage to a single target, halved on a successful save. The Greater version lets you create a perfect battlefield, including making the mindscape Dead Magic, letting you do things like savelessly put an enemy spellcaster at the bottom of a pit, surrounded by your marital friends/minions, and rendering them entirely mundane.Įxplode Head is a funny spell, but it's not actually all that great. Perhaps most reliably used to render both yourself and an enemy effectively (if not technically) helpless, when trading one player for one enemy in a combat is a sensible option.

This means you can use it while safe within a Resilient Sphere - and it's also essentially saveless, the save telling them it's a mindscape and how to escape but that doesn't prevent you from making it time consuming. It's comparatively less hard control in exchange for heavier potential damage, but effectively the result will be very similar.Ĭreate Mindscape has a bunch of fun applications, but perhaps most notable is that implicitly it does not need Line of Effect (explicitly doesn't need line of sight, but written example in the spell also does not have line of effect). Etheric Shards fills the same game space as Wall of Thorns - 5th level, SR:no, saveless area control that will make even wizards a little envious.
